Avena is a
fairly impressive milking yearling. We've only
had 3 does in our dairy goat experience that have
finished their Championship as a yearling milker,
1st was our 1997 ADGA Natl Jr.Champion Gazette EX92,
2nd was our 2008 & 2009 ADGA National Champion Evian
EX94 (& Avena's dam), and the third is this girl,
only she earned a Best In Show win at one of them as
well! She's been 1st every time she's been
shown as a milker, has produced over 2700 lbs. as a
yearling, and was appraised VG89 (VVEE)!
Exciting! Along with her dam Evian they placed
1st dam & daughter at both the CA State Fair &
Sonoma County Fair. She looks a lot like her
dam, but with an improvement in her teat size &
shape! Yay!
Avena has
matured into everything we had hoped for! She
was only shown twice as a 2 year old in 2011 and won her class
both times...and then went on to win GCH and BU at
the very competitive Sonoma County Fair...following
her mothers footsteps! We're excited to see
another year on her...
Avena has more
than exceeded all of my expectations. With a
big move last winter and freshening 2 weeks early
this spring, I wasn't sure what would be in store
for her this year. She slowly came into her
milk this spring, getting up to quite a respectable
amount especially considering her early kidding.
I started to give her some special treatment and got
her clipped and prettied up...and bam...she knew she
was special again and it was showtime!
Show day at
Nationals came and Avena looked...well...beautiful!
She had filled her udder perfectly...and knew what
she had to do. She walked into the ring like
she owned the place and didn't look back. To
have her achieve what she has this year just brings
tears of happiness to my eyes. She was only
shown 3 times...her first show was Nationals where
she was named 2012 ADGA National Champion, followed
a week later by going GCH at the CA State fair and
was also part of the Supreme Best 3 Females, and a
couple weeks after that was GCH for the 2nd year in
a row at the Sonoma County Fair. This fall she
earned an EX92 on appraisal...all I ask of her is to
keep doing what she's doing!
